Writing a new year’s resolution has become a tradition for many. Every year people make promises for the new year to change from bad habits, achieving personal goals, living an organized lifestyle but some quickly give up before the middle of the year. However, they forget so soon the things they wish to do, forfeit them and they wonder why.
The question is:
How do you intend to live an organized lifestyle when God is not acknowledged?
How can you change bad habits when you are depending on your understanding?
How can you achieve your goals when you are not diligent?
What are the things to do that can help in achieving our new year’s resolution?
- Committing your resolutions to God is the best way to start a new year, the Bible tells us that by strength no man prevails (1Sam. 2:9b). Your theory for keeping your resolution needs to be total dependence on God
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; (Proverb. 3:5.NIV).
Accepting Jesus Christ first allows you to put away your undesired old self. Jesus desires that we avoid every evil appearance. For this reason, involving Him at the beginning of the year will help a lot.
21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him by the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, about your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:21-24.NIV).
- CONSISTENCY: It is extremely difficult to be consistent. We have challenges doing something regularly unless there is a motive that keeps us moving. When your motives are right, and you are not consistent in God, it may make you not to achieve your goals. God is always consistent in all His ways (in His faithfulness, love, and good deeds) and He desires us to be steady in Him and His word.
He says For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob (Malachi 3:6).
Being steady in God’s word will always remind us of those bad habits that are not pleasing to God and direct us on the path to tread.
We are called to be consistent in the place of prayer. God can be trusted in keeping his promises, you need to play your part by following His instruction which says pray always.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6 ESV)
Diligent: Cultivating the act of diligence and avoiding procrastination can also help you to accomplish your resolutions and become more successful.
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. (Proverbs: 21:5 ESV)
Finally, do not be skeptical about your new year resolution, instead keep God in charge and be consistent in His will. Do not be after your will this year, but do the will of God. http://cocgrey.com/why-christians-should-live-a-consistent-life/
